Starting Tuesday 21st February (tomorrow) we will begin moving data from our current servers to our new units which are now online and up and running. During the process of transfer your website and data will not be changed in anyway.

Once your data is migrated starting tomorrow night we will begin changing the DNS records over, after these records resolve all over the internet your website and emails will load from the new units, again this will not affect your data in anyway. The only thing that may happen is if you receive an email to your account after your data has been migrated, once the DNS resolves you may not see these emails. We will try to make the transfer window as small as possible to prevent this from happening.

The DNS migration once changed can take up to 48 hours to fully resolve so by doing this in 2 stages on a Friday night by Monday morning your services will be 100% operational. Please note we have no control of the speed of this process so if you encounter any issues please try and leave it 48 hours once you have been contacted to say your data has been moved.

If you require any more information on this migration process please do contact us.

There are about 200 accounts that we need to manually change some nameserver records, if we hold your domain name on your behalf we will proceed and make this change for you, If you look after your own domain name we will contact you asking you to make the change for us. Details will be given.

Starting late February 2012 we are going to be moving data centre’s to a brand new centre which is located only 1 mile away from our offices, up until now we have always leased servers from third party companies and have relied on there service and support at keeping them running. Now the time has come for us to break away from this setup and run and maintain our own machines so in the new centre will be our own servers bought by us and they will be setup and looked after by us.

Starting late February once we have everything online we will begin transferring clients over to new machines. For most clients this will not affect you in anyway at all, we will simply move all your data from one server to another and then update the DNS name server settings accordingly so overnight your website will begin to load from the new hardware. For a selected few as while doing this move we are changing a few things round it will mean that some clients name servers will have to be changed. We will be contacting these clients on a client to client basis in order to achieve this. Please wait to hear from us if we need you to change anything.

Once all the data is moved and we are fully operational from the new centre we will be making changes to the way we operate which will include better products and services and flexibility. Keep checking this blog for more information as it comes about.

That’s it for now; keep an eye on this blog post if you would like to be kept updated about this data centre move. Hopefully we will be able to post a few pictures as the servers are installed.

As from Tuesday the 11th October we have implemented some higher levels of security to our servers to secure access to various services hosted through our network. The first change to the servers was to make passwords stronger so when you now access your cPanel control panel you will be prompted to change your password. This prompt will also appear every 90 days and I’m sorry to say but the system will not let you use the same password twice. The password strength level has also been increased from 5 to 20 so your password must now meet certain criteria in order to be accepted.
The second change is how you access the server’s resources, normally to access the cPanel system or webmail you just normally have no issues with your login but now if you haven’t already noticed you will need to access both the cPanel system and Webmail services using a secure connection. This means rather than using the standard http:// on your domain name you will need to replace this with https://

When you access the server’s software using this https link you will more than likely be prompted by your internet browser saying this is an unsafe connection and do you wish to proceed, I’m happy to say this IS a safe connection and you’re safe enough to proceed to access any software this way. Normally your browser will let you save an exception so that you will only have to do this once. The reason for this is to use an https connection you need what’s called an SSL certificate installed under your domain name. As most people don’t have this option this is why you are getting the error but again it’s nothing to worry about.

Below we have setup some secure links for you to access your panels and email if you do not wish to use your domain name.

For cPanel access use https://www.eclipse2000hosting.co.uk/cpanel

For WHM access (Resellers Only) use https://www.eclipse2000hosting.co.uk/whm

For Webmail access use https://www.eclipse2000hosting.co.uk/webmail

Well times are changing so here at Eclipse 2000 Hosting we have decided to concentrate more on developing our servers and network to make your website function better on the internet, this means we have got to say goodbye to a few things that we offer. Starting with Domain Name registration we will no longer be offering this service to new and old clients. You are still able to host all your websites with us but in order to do this you will need to purchase a domain name from a third party.

Once you have registered a domain name with a third party it’s a simple change you need to make to allow this domain name to point towards our servers, simply change the name servers in your control panel to the ones listed below.

ns1.defaultnameservers.com

ns2.defaultnameservers.com

We would recommend using Heart Internet for your domain name registration services, visit http://www.heartinternet.co.uk for more information.

How embarrassed would you feel if a hacker defaced your website with vulgar profanity, and you had no way of quickly fixing it?

How much time and money would you lose if you made a mistake while editing your site, and had to start over from scratch?

Even worse…could your online business survive if you were the victim of a server crash and your site totally vanished?

Listen, these aren’t “worst case” scenarios. They are common events that happen each and every day to website owners just like you.

The end result?

A near fatal loss of revenue while you scramble to get your site back up and running!

I don’t know about you, but even just the thought of losing my main source of income for even one day keeps me awake at night.

If you create websites to enjoy financial freedom, then the last thing you need to worry about is if they can just disappear at the drop of a hat…never to return.

Well, you don’t have to worry anymore…

Introducing: Backup Smart

Eclipse 2000 would recommend this script for backing up your website and data to your home PC. Download the free trial now and have a go. Its easy ….
